do. Good Stitches: April Faith blocks

This month, Rachel of Stitched in Color asked the Faith circle of do. Good Stitches {a charity bee} to create blocks inspired by the rainbow for a mama and her six children from Rachel's church. Something I have really come to love about do. Good Stitches' Faith circle is that it's really nice to know a little about the recipient of the quilt. It makes me more passionate about the work I'm doing when I can envision how our handiwork might comfort someone in particular.

Earlier this month I became hooked on some blocks on Amy's blog. These + and x blocks really stuck out to me and I instantly knew that I wanted to do something with Amy's tutorial (in fact, I think my mom and I are going to make a quilt together using this tutorial). They didn't scream "rainbow blocks!" to me but I thought I'd give it a try. I'm still not loving this block but I think it will work well in Rachel's rainbow quilt.

Rachel had asked for blocks of varying sizes for the do. Good Stitches quilt and so I contemplated making a couple more really small blocks or one more really large block . . . and because those templates I spent hours cutting out when I had planned on doing the Single Girl Support Group quilt-a-long were still sitting in a stack of projects to be touched, I thought I'd finally give that a shot.

And I am really glad that I did. It was totally not as difficult as I'd expected it would be—just time-consuming. Which was good. It gave me a lot of time to sit and reflect and pray for this family in need. It did me good—a benefit of do. Good Stitches that I don't always anticipate. :)

When I realized just how large the Single Girl block was going to be, I checked in with Rachel and we decided that I should send 2 half-Single Girl blocks and she could decide how to use them: together or separately.

There's something kind of fun about those rectangles, I think . . . well, except for the couple of places where my seams don't quite match up. But practice makes perfect and I plan on getting a lot more practice on this pattern.
