A pillow for mom

Way, way back I shared this preview of a "just because" project for my dear mom . . .
I recently had a chance to finish the pillow and gave it to my mom on a day when I sensed she really needed something special.

My mom is such an amazing inspiration to me in all walks of life—from her strength and her faith through to her creativity and artistic ability. We've been through a lot together and I am one of those incredibly fortunate women who can call their mother a friend—a best friend.

My mom still has big dreams. Dreams for herself and for her daughters. Dreams which I believe in and try to encourage her to pursue despite fears of the unknown. I try to stand by her in the way she stands by me.

So, while to some this might just be a cute pillow or a sweet pillow—the meaning behind it is so much more.

We all—including my mom—have aspirations. Lists of things we want to accomplish or check off our life lists. Dreams we want to see come to fruition. Sometimes, though, crossing those things off our lists is more difficult or scary than we wish they were and so we find ourselves stepping back—stepping away from the things which we feel will really give us fulfillment.

This pillow was a little message to my mom. I believe in her dreams and want her to (as cheesy as it may sound) break beyond the, albeit logical and realistic, fears and day-to-day needs that keep her from getting to where I know she wants to be.

Wow. I love my mom. Really, really love her.

I don't know if she sensed what I was trying to say with this pillow. She may have just seen it as a cute, sweet bird and thought nothing more than "Alecia knows I like birds." All I know is that each day she can see it in her home, sitting on the chair opposite her favorite knitting spot, and she'll think of me and she'll think of that bird and I can only hope that she'll come to realize how much I believe in and support her dreams . . . as she always has mine.

OK. Well, maybe it really is just a cute bird.

How wonderfully special! It is a very cute pillow in itself, but I think the meaning is clear. I saw it!

Sniff sniff...you know I'm a sentimental fool, so you know I found your post very touching and special. Hooray for you and your Mom! The pillow is beautiful!

I clicked on the photo of your pillow, because I like birds. But the first thing I noticed (beside the cuteness!)is that the bird is escaping her cage. So, yeah, I think the meaning is clear. I think handmade gifts are wonderful, but when they have meaning attached, they are that much better! Good job.
