Making change

On Friday when I was home sick, I thought I'd give the super-cute Quick Change Coin Purse non-tutorial tutorial by Mary Claire from Splendorfalls a shot. Apparently, the time to make a coin purse (or any project utilizing the sewing machine) is not on a day when you are home sick suffering from uber groginess. Lesson learned.

Despite some mistakes caused by a serious lack of patience and just wanting to give it a shot rather than work it to perfection, these turned out pretty well. I still need to put a zipper in the larger version but it fell behind my sewing table and I've been too lazy the last 3 days to get down and crawl behind my table to find it. So, eventually, it'll get a zipper.

I didn't follow Mary's directions to the letter—I tend to like contrast stitching and tried that on the larger one only to discover that my stitches now show in places I don't want them to show and not only where I wanted the contrast stitching. That's OK. They are good enough for my purse and will certainly hold some change and other loose odds and ends.

The tutorial was really simple to follow and the project only takes about 20 minutes from start to finish and that's with hand-stitching the zipper in place. Easy peasy. They are a great way to use of small pieces of fabric for something useful. I'll definitely be making more of these.  In fact, I've already got two more cut out on my table. This time I'm going to follow Mary's directions to the T and NOT attach the binding the way I did on these two because I'll want a more polished finish with the fabrics I've chosen for the next ones. I'll share those little lovelies when they are finished!

Hope you all had a wonderful sew modern monday!

They are adorable! I'm admitting that I'm feeling guilty for not making anything yet out of my cut of that Michael Miller Big E print. Oh, the cuteness!!!
