Good stitches for January

As promised in December, I was going to look at January 2011 as a time to become less of a procrastinator on my do. Good Stitches {a Charity Bee} blocks. And, voila! Here are my blocks for this month all ready to go and it's only the middle of the month.

This month, Jessica of Twin Fibers is planning the quilt. She asked us to each make 4 7.25" blocks in a nautical theme—navy with touches of yellow and red—following this tutorial for an X-string block. At first, I will admit, I was a little bit apprehensive about the block. I didn't know if I'd be able to turn up much navy in my stash and then I discovered that I had more than I thought I did. Then I was worried about the execution of the block.

In the end, they turned out just fine. In fact, while I was working on them I realized that there could be a potential shortcut for this block if I were making an entire quilt like this. And, let me tell you . . . I will be making an entire quilt like this.

Those are nice! Love the fabrics you used and the blocks turned out great.

I really enjoyed this block too. I'm thinking just make super duper long 3.5" strips of scraps and then add long white trim along the sides. Chop 'em up and go.

They're beautiful and will look so nice in the quilt! i agree, I think there are quite a few shortcuts that could be made to the pattern and make it a lot fast to make a whole quilt with!
